Pepe Karmel to give Zoom lecture for the Met on July 14

6 Jul

From Professor Karmel:

Dear friends,
I hope you are all well.

As you may know, I’ve had the honor, since January, to be a senior visiting scholar at the Lauder Research Center at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

On Wednesday, July 14, at noon, I will give a Zoom lecture to present some of the research I’ve done while in (virtual) residence at the Lauder Center.

While the “essential Cubism” of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque is usually dated to the years 1907-1914, I will argue that their productive dialogue continued well into the 1920s.  Discussing their Cubist work of 1917-1927, I will analyze how it differs from their earlier work — emphasizing its sensual beauty — and will trace its important role in the development of modernism.

I hope you can join me on the 14th.

All best,

Pepe
