Looking for a future path? Love old buildings? Why not make them new again?  NYU’s London-based M.A. Program provides an immersion in adaptive reuse and sustainable building practice. Come learn about the program at our Summer Open House, featuring presentations about our faculty and curriculum, along with admissions information for January 2021, and a discussion of career opportunities in the field. Program directors, faculty, and alumni will be there to discuss the program and answer your questions.

We have deferred our program start date to January 2021 due to the current uncertainty about in-person teaching and learning in the UK. We have therefore re-opened admissions applications for our next class, which we expect to run in London from January to August, 2021.  We are accepting applications until October 15, 2020, so please join us at the Open House to learn about opportunities to study with us next year.

This past February, the Uffizi and Black History Month Florence Festival collaborated to launch a project called On Being Present: Recovering Blackness in the Gallerie degli Uffizi.

Justin Thompson, director and co-founder of Black History Month Florence, invited an international team of art historians to contribute texts discussing approximately a dozen paintings in the Uffizi collections that represent Black Africans, shown in widely varying degrees of agency. The project proved to be especially timely.

Professor Dennis Geronimus was one of the contributors, providing an entry on Piero di Cosimo’s mythological fantasy, The Liberation of Andromeda (and the extended text)

Five months on, the project is moving on to its next stage (“Black Presence“), focused around a social media campaign that is intended to engage as broad and diverse an audience as possible.

Scheduled to coincide with the 4th of July, on Tik Tok starting at 2pm (New York time), Thompson will lead a walk through the Uffizi, discussing a variety of works featured in Black Presence.  An hour later (July 4, 3pm New York time) — streaming live on Facebook from the Uffizi — Gabin Dabirè, a multi-instrumentalist from Burkina Faso will perform with
traditional African instruments in front of Piero’s painting.

We hope that you might want to share in the experience of the virtual gallery tour and concert, wherever you may be this July 4th!
