In some cases, museums and historical sites serve as flash points for those competing to define the history of the Spanish Civil War and Franco’s dictatorship (1939-1975). In others they are designed as spaces to recover repressed histories and testimonies. Some contemporary artists move between museum and historical site, archival and activist work, collaborating with groups striving to shed light on what they view as the injustice of the impunity granted to the regime.
