On Monday, September, 9th, Professor Ann Macy Roth will lecture on “A Beautiful Burial: Decorating an Old Kingdom Mastaba Chapel.” The lecture, which will take place at 2:00 PM in the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Grace Rainey Rogers Auditorium, is one of the three 2013 Charles K. Wilkinson lectures, given annually by specialists in ancient Egyptian, ancient Mesopotamian, and medieval Islamic civilization.  The topic of this year’s lectures is “the art of burial;” the full program of lectures is as follows:

2:00 p.m. Ann Macy Roth – “A Beautiful Burial: Decorating an Old Kingdom Mastaba Chapel.”

3:00 p.m. Kim Benzel – “Adornment for the Afterlife: Jewelry and Identity at Ur and Nimrud.”

4:00 p.m. Lisa Golombek – “In Quest of Paradise: Accommodating Death in Islam.”

Lectures are free with museum admission.
